Vs. 1a: "Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made."
"the serpent"
1 Chronicles 21:1 "Now Satan stood up against Israel, and moved David to number Israel."
Revelation 12:9 "So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."
Revelation 20:2, 10
"He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years;"
"The Devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever."
Vs. 1-5 Bible Note: Satan's first deception of the human mind and will.
Vs. 6 Bible Note: Just as with sin, instead of trusting God, we look to see if the sin has any physical gratification (fruit was "good for food"), emotional gratification ("pleasant to the eye"), and/or spiritual gratification ("desirable to make one wise") outside of having to trust God.
"So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate."
Vs. 6-7: Eve gave some of the fruit to Adam, her husband, and he ate. Their eyes were opened and they knew they were naked. They immediately sewed fig leaves together and covered themselves. They now knew shame.
