What is in a greeting?

Ephesians 1:1-2
"Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God,
-
To the saints who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,"

Apostle (Strongs Concordanance) - apostolos - a delegate, an ambassador of the Gospel; officially a commissioner of Christ (with miraculous powers): - apostle, messenger, he that is sent

What is the job description of an ambassador?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambassador
An ambassador serves as the official representative of his/her country. An ambassodor has full power to represent the head of state.

Paul was an ambassador for Christ. He did not give himself this authority, but it was given by the will of God. He had full power to represent our Christ as an apostle.

Who was Paul speaking to in this letter? He was speaking to the saints and to the faithful in Christ Jesus, who were in Ephesus.

Saints (Strongs Concordanance) - hagios - sacred, pure, morally blameless or religious, consecreated, most holy

Faithful (Strongs Concordanance) - pistos - trustworthy, believing, faithful, sure, true

Paul spoke on behalf of Christ, to the saints and the faithful.

Paul's greeting to the saints and the faithful:
"Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,"

Grace (Strongs Concordanance) - charis - acceptable, benefit, favour, gift, grace, joy, liberty, pleasure, thanks

Peace (Strongs Concordanance) - eirene - one, peace, quietness, rest, + set at one again

Paul greeted them, desiring them to have grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. He came with words of liberation & words to put them at peace. Paul, however, was not speaking on his own behalf (although he may have wanted the same for them). He was speaking on behalf of the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ Himself was sending the saints and faithful words of liberation and peace through the person of Paul.
