Every Knee will Bow

Philippians 2:9-10

"Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth."

I just absolutely love this Beth Moore study. She has so much insight and just helps to visualize the events taking place. Continue to read:

Luke 8:26-28

"Then they sailed to the country of Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. And when He stepped out on the land, there met Him a certain man from the city who had demons for a long time. And he wore no clothes, nor did he live in a house but in the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out, fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, 'What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg You, do not torment me!'"

Luke 8:40-41

"So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus' feet and begged Him to come to his house,"

In this Beth Moore study we have studied both of these two cases. What is the difference between the demon possessed man living in the tombs with no clothes and Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue?

1. The demons within this certain man had the knowledge of who Christ fully was and had no choice but to bow down. Jairus bowed down willingly believing Christ for a miracle. He had no concept of who Christ really was beyond a healer and a man claiming to be the Son of God walking on earth.

2. Although the demons bowed down, they had no intention of making Christ their King. We don't know if Jairus ever accepted Christ as King, but I bet after the healing of his daughter he knew there was more to Christ than meets the eye.

3. When Jesus went up onto dry land at Gadarenes, it seems the demon-possessed man had no idea Christ was coming. I don't think it was just by chance, he came out of the tombs at that particular time. Jairus and a group of people were expecting Christ. They waited for him on the shoreline.

4. The demon possessed man begged Christ to not torment him and to leave him alone. Jairus begged Christ to come to his house.

5. The demons were subjects of Satan. Jairus was a ruler of the synagogue.

6. I didn't write all the verses out, but the demons were cast into swine and the certain man became sane. Jairus seemed to already be sane.

7. I didn't write all the verses out, but Jesus told the certain man to return home and tell all that Christ had done for him. After the healing of Jairus' daughter, Christ charged him to not tell anyone what had happened.

I'm sure there are other differences, but I think that is a good enough list for learning. May we be a people excited to meet Him at the shoreline, looking for His coming, and begging Him to come into our house. One day we will not be able to choose rather or not to bow at His feet. We will have no choice when we fully know who God is. Let's make it a choice now while we have the chance.
