Luke Chapter 1 Verse 38

Luke 1:38
"Then Mary said, 'Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.' And the angel departed from her."

Maidservant - Handmaid (KJV) - Strong's 1399 - a female slave

It is interesting to note here that when looking up maidservant and handmaid, this is the only time the phrase is used in the New Testament. It is a strong statement to say to the Lord, "Do with me as You will!"

It is also interesting to contrast the difference between the attitude of Mary with the attitude of Zacharias.

Mary's response:
Luke 1:45 - "Blessed is she who believed, for there will be a fulfillment of those things which were told her from the Lord."

Zacharias' response:
Luke 1:20 - "But behold, you will be mute and not able to speak until the day these things take place, because you did not believe my words which will be fulfilled in their own time."

In both circumstances, God had His way. The birth of John and the birth of Jesus were both fulfilled. The timing was God's. Both babies were born for the purpose of God.

Lord, may I be willing for whatever purpose You have me for in this life. You currently have me living in Illinois working at a daycare. Aaron and I have been looking for a move, but only You know rather or not that move will happen. Keep us content while we are in the process of waiting for if that move will be happening. I love my job here and there are other parts of living here I enjoy. Keep us from feeling anxiety and help us to be patient. Have Your way with what You want to do in our lives. You prepare us for each step and may we believe Your truths. You will guide us. You will protect us. You have the best in mind for us. You love us. Amen.
