Luke Chapter 1 Verses 26-28

Luke 1:26-28
"Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin's name was Mary. And having come in, the angel said to her, 'Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!'"

1. Where is Nazareth in Galilee? vs 26
  • Northern part of Israel

2. Mary was promised to Joseph, but they were not married yet. (vs. 27)

  • Matthew 1:18 - "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit."

  • Luke 2:4-5 - "Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child."

3. "Rejoice, highly favored one" - Who are a few others in the Bible who were told they were blessed, favored, etc. among people?

  • Daniel 9:22-23 - "And he (the angel Gabriel) informed me, and talked with me, and said, 'O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand. At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision:'"
  • Judges 6:11-12 - Now the Angel of the Lord came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Orphrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites. And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him, and said to him, 'The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!'"
  • 1 Samuel 2:26 - "And the child Samuel grew in stature, and in favor both with the Lord and men."
  • Job 10:12 - "You have granted me life and favor, and Your care has preserved my spirit."

These are just a few who found favor with God.

Journal Entry:

Lord, I want to praise You for where You have Aaron and I right now. We have met some wonderful friends and we have truly been blessed. I want to pray for the upcoming months and that we would just hear Your call to what You have for us. This season over the past three years have been good for both Aaron and me. We have been challenged in many ways. One of the biggest ways we have been challenged is by leaning on You and using our gifts, even when there seems to be no progress or return by others. Thank You for the ones who have returned our gift of hospitality and friendship. Amen.
