Day 1 Wrap Up:
Romans 5:19
"For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous."
1. Through Adam's disobedience we were made sinners. Through the obedience of Christ, as Christians we are made righteous.
2. It is not our own obedience that make us righteous, but the obedience of Christ going to the cross.
3. We are no longer subject to sin because of Adam, but are righteous because of Christ. It isn't something we earn through works, but something Christ has done for us.
4. Christ complied. Christ submitted. Christ harkened attentively to His Father God.
Day 2 Wrap Up:
Philippians 2:8
"And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross."
1. He humbled Himself, not the guards who put Him on the cross.
2. He could have ran and resisted. God could have saved Him. Instead, He humbled Himself to the point of death on the cross.
Day 3 Wrap Up:
John 10:17-18
"Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I received from My Father."
1. Christ died willingly, having the power to raise his life again through the resurrection.
2. Christ's love goes beyond brotherly love. It is in a sense a principle, duty & propriety. It is who He is in His very being.
3. Christ was the only one who could go through with what had to be done. There was no other for our atonement. Jesus Christ went through it all for us, knowingly committing Himself to His Father's will.
Day 4 Wrap Up:
2 Corinthians 10:4 - 6
"For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled."
1. The weapons of our warfare are mighty in God. They are mighty to pull down strongholds, cast down arguments, cast down every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.
2. We can not bring our minds into obedience outside of God.
Day 5 Wrap Up:
Hebrews 5:7-8
"who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered."
1. It was through Christ's suffering He learned obedience.
2. God often allows pain & suffering, in order to bring us to our knees ready to be obedient.
Day 6 Wrap Up:
1 Peter 1:13-16
"Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, 'Be holy, for I am holy.'"
1. We are to bind up the physical stregnth of our minds.
2. We are to show self-control.
3. Grace is to brought to us only through the revelation of Jesus Christ.
4. In our former lusts, we were ignorant. Now we are to be sane & act like it.
5. It is God who calls us to be holy, for He alone is holy.
6. We are to be holy in all of our conduct. We are not to act shamelessly, for we know better since we are no longer babes.
Day 7 Wrap Up:
Isaiah 1:18-20
"'Come now, and let us reason together,' says the Lord, 'Thou your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land; But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured by the sword'; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken."
1. God has much for us, but if we don't listen to His Word & obey His voice how can we expect to share in this delight.
2. God is perfect, so there is no Him giving into our whims. He only shares with those who obey.
Day 8 Wrap Up:
Acts 6:7
"Then the Word of God spread, and the number of disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith."
1. Many priests were obedient to the faith, because God's Word held to be true.
2. It is much easier in my own life to be obedient to the faith when I am in the Word of God.
Day 9 Wrap Up:
Romans 15:18
"For I will not dare to speak of any of those things which Christ has not accomplished through me, in word & deed, to make the Gentiles obedient - "
1. Whereever your ministry is, in every aspect of your life, it should be leading others to become obedient to God.
2. It seems to me also that Paul is saying that he does not speak of anything that does not glorify God.
Day 10 Wrap Up:
1 Peter 1:14
"as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;"
1. When we conform ourselves to the former lusts, we are being disobedient.
2. We are no longer ignorant, but we know fully well when we are being disobedient.
Day 11 Wrap Up:
Deut. 4:30-31
"When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the Lord your God and obey His voice (for the Lord your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them."
1. Obedience + turning to God = Mercy
2. Sometimes it is distress that turns us toward God.
Day 12 Wrap Up:
Joshua 24:24-25
"And the people said to Joshua, 'The Lord our God we will serve, and His voice we will obey.' So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and made for them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem."
1. Sometimes we need to proclaim our obedience & make a covenant with God (and perhaps at times before other believers to keep us accountable).
2. We need to proclaim, "From this day forward I will obey the voice of God." That covenant may be broken at one time or another & perhaps several times. Nevertheless, we are to set the covenant again, committing our ways to the Lord.
Day 13 Wrap Up:
1 Samuel 15:22
"So Samuel said:'Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fats of rams.'"
1. The Lord delights in obedience.
2. He prefers our obedience over our sacrifices.
3. Sometimes God calls for sacrifice, but often times we sacrifice with without obedience. Obedience is of the heart.
Day 14 Wrap Up:
Acts 5:29
"But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: 'We ought to obey God rather than men.'"
1. In order to hear God's voice above the voice of men, we need to know what God's voice sounds like and we can only do that by seeking Him.
Day 15 Wrap Up:
Romans 2:7-9
"eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor & immorality; but to those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness - indignation and wrath, tribulation and anguish on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;"
1. When we are not obeying the truth, we are obeying unrighteousness.
2. Those obeying unrighteousness will reap indignation, wrath, tribulation & anguish.
3. God is not partial to Jews or Greeks, but wants obedience from all.
4. When we are not obedient, we are self-seeking.
