Turtles and Teenagers

I’m driving down Harding/37 up in Indy on our way up to Dekalb and think I see a newspaper floating across the road. What to my dismay, it is a turtle. I pull over into the turn lane and stop the car. Aaron jumps out of the car to save the turtle. He puts it out of the road and onto the grass close to the lake/pond he probably came from. As Aaron is waiting for traffic to cross in order to get back to the car, his wife is frantically pointing a little further up. He is in a state of confusion and then realizes another turtle is trying to get up the curb. As the turtle is whipped up onto the grass, he looses bowel control. Thankfully, it didn’t hit my poor husband.

How are teenagers like turtles? On this particular day they both needed rescuing. As Aaron is driving us out of Dekalb on our way back home, we are flagged down by frantic arms of teenagers flailing around. We turn our car around and try to get them out of the ditch by pulling and pushing and a few grunts. However, we were unsuccessful. The ones who could have been successful asked us if we needed them to call a towing company and informed us that the country dirt road was not a place to make a 3-point turn, but it was a PRIVATE DRIVEWAY. That piece of information seemed to be real helpful at the time. In spite of their situation, Aaron and I had to get back on the road. After all, we had to rescue Jack from my parent’s house before we drove the rest of the way home.

For those of you who haven’t found out through the grapevine or from us personally, Aaron accepted the offer today. The plans of exactly when we are leaving are still up in the air. We have decided to sell, instead of keep the duplex. A few other decisions have been made. Many more decisions are to be made.
